SNMP lockout

Question

I was trying to add a new node yesterday.  I thought I had everything set perfect, but when I attempted to test the connection in Solarwinds, it would not connect to the switch.  Tried this morning, without making any changes and it worked.

My questions.  Is there an SNMP lockout feature that I triggered?  If so, how does one adjust the timer?

The device in question was a Cisco switch.

Ditto on the comments about no snmp lockout. BUT you can and should use the snmp walk tool (\\SolarWinds\Orion\SnmpWalk.exe - usually this is C\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SnmpWalk.exe) This tool will give you a bit more information about failures and can test snmp v1,2, and 3. You enter the ip, the credentials and hit scan. This will let you know if there is an issue (unlikely) with the snmp polling, but more likely the target snmp config or network vlan/firewall. Lastly, the web interface for testing snmp when editing a node can get grabby, along with your web browsers 'oh so helpful' autocomplete, to make changing snmp a pain. My two cents here, change snmp, test it, save the config, edit node again and only test snmp again in the web gui. Odds are it will work. Ditto to bobmarley on his experience. Use snmpwalk tool to verify things when all else fails. Cisco has some very funny snmp permissions and configurations - depending on the device.

What version of SNMP? I have some latency in my network connection between my workstation and the Orion server (work remote). I have noticed when adding SNMP V3 to a node occasionally when I try the 'Test' function I will get either a fail or a timeout but if I try it again it will work on the second try right away. Once the node is added it works perfectly fine. When working on site it never happens so I'm making an assumption is is latency on my home connection in my case.

From my experience I have only come across Accounts being locked, never SNMP being locked out. Is there maybe a firewall between your SW Server and the Switch in question?
