Hi everyone!
I had a great conversation recently about whether NPM can monitor TV Media Broadcast controllers and associated technology. The THWACK community has many more smart folks than myself so I wont go into great depth about using UnDP/Custom MIBs/devices etc, but I wanted to add this discussion so if folks come here in the future looking for any of the hardware devices in the tags below, they have hot links the vendor material to support building custom monitoring to get started quicker.
These are some pretty specialist broadcast media equipment and they support SNMP polling.
I don't have my hands on the equipment so i can't build a device template but sharing this in the community hopefully helps future folks looking to poll these devices.
The devices in question with some notes to get started are
Make | Model | Type | SNMP Polling Supported | Note |
Mediakind | RX8200 | IRD | Yes, Page 13, 20 of 483 and the Datasheet | MIB can be downloaded from the device. You’ll need to open the MIB in a text editor, look at what you want to monitor, and then go through the UnDP Steps to build a custom device template |
Ateme | DR5000 | IRD | Yes, Link | See the screenshot below for an example of Hardware/Temp status |
Evertz | 770DA7-HD | Distribution Amplifier | Yes, Link | You’ll likely need to contact the manufacturer for the MIB file to discover the OID’s you need to reference |
Evertz | 7700FR-C | Frame Distribution Amplifier | Yes, Link | As above |
