File monitoring

Hey ...

Hope you all are doing well.

We have alerting requirement in which we need to monitor a file at a specific path . A file with .XML (say printer.xml ) extension generated and get stored on given path , after 3-5 minute another a trace file generated on the same path with same name (printer.xml.trace ) but with .XML.trace extension . I want alert on the on that trace file . If not generated within 10 min . I need a alert

--All files generated with random name . There is no specific time a file will generate and folder contains 1000+ files

Hi there,

Based on the information you've given so far - you could try either of the following. Be warned that I think you'd need to have a custom script somewhere in either, unless there is a way to compare 2 values in the alert builder that I don't know about:

1. Create a 'File Count' component that is filtered to .XML files

2. Create a second 'File Count' component that is filtered to .XML.trace files.

3. Create an alert that compares the 2 values using a SWQL query

The other option:

1. Create a PowerShell component

2. Write a script that compares the number of .XML files to .XML.trace files

3. Create an alert when that component goes down
