Node name - system name instead of DNS name

Hello,

I have plenty of nodes added to orion platform and 98% of them has correct desired name which is represented by sysname in orion node detail. This is correct. For some nodes, node name is the same as DNS name even if system name is also available. Can you please guide me how to change that and have all nodes named after system name?

Hi, this seems to be one time thing. But I need to do this automatically by solarwinds. Let me explain why. We are monitoring some clustered firewalls by Solarwind and standard state is that those are shown as firewall_node0. In case cluster failover to secondary node, this caption will be changed to firewall_node1 which we have covered by alerts (when name change from suffix node0 to suffix node1). I just need to say to Solarwinds use systemname for node instead of dns name.

@mplisek so the node caption is a one-time set value. and it determines it on node import based on a variety of conditions, and there is not a way that I'm aware of that you can modify that behavior. What you could do is create an alert to tell you when the values do not match and have it execute this script as the alert action. That will make it near real time in terms of identification and remediation.

I am actually describing functionality which works in our envirenment. It is not one time value. It just does not work for 2 devices from 100 because of DNS name used instead of system name.
