Device Up/Down alerts questions

Hi all,

Is there a way to disable or enable device Up/Down alerts on individual device ? I have some devices that go up/down frequently and I would like to disable up/down alerts on these individual devices.

I see from the Alert Details there is an option to turn OFF this alert definition, but this would turn OFF the up/down alert definition across the system. I only want to disable the alert on a few specific devices.

Hi @DannyTran,

Firstly, create a copy (Duplicate & edit) of the 'Node is Down' alert.
You could try and exclude the devices in the alert with adding their names to not match for the trigger.

Or an even better solution could be implementing a Custom Property (CP) & add this to the alert trigger.

What alain_p has suggested is a good way of doing it. Or the real easy way is to mute alerts on the nodes you don't want to be alerted on.

Hi there,

Just to add ANOTHER option for you, if the devices are flapping (i.e. going up and down within a few minutes) you can add in a delay to your 'Node is Down' alert:

This means that there needs to be a prolonged period of downtime before the device triggers an alert. This is really good practice for all alerts in-fact, as it means you won't be mobilising engineers for issues that have already resolved themselves.

This is the perfect place to use custom properties. Set up a new node custom property, such as "node_flapping" and and assign it to all your flapping nodes. Then add this condition to your alert, so that if node_flapping = true (or 1 or whatever) then the alert is supressed.
A much easier way, than having to detail each individual node into the alert trigger.
