Auto-Maintenance Script

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has already built an auto-maintenance script? Here's the scenario I'm setting up.

I've set up a SAM monitor to monitor for WindowsUpdateClient event ID: 43 which is the event that for when Windows Update has started. I've set up an alert to look for that, but I would like to put a trigger action to put that node into maintenance mode for 1 hour.

I didn't want to re-invent the wheel so I wanted to check and see if anyone has done this or something similar?

Hi there,

We don't have one exactly like that in our library of scripts here at Prosperon, but I've managed to combine bits and pieces to give you what you a rudimentary script that does what you are looking for:

#Take in variables from command line
Param(
[string]$URI,
[int]$hours
)

#Specify API Connection variables
$hostname = "localhost"
$username = "" #Put Orion Admin username here
$password = "" #Put Orion Admin password here

#Connect to API
$swis = connect-swis -host $hostname -username $username -password $password -ignoresslerrors

#Specify API call variables
$start = Get-Date
$end = $start.AddHours($hours)

#Perform API call
Invoke-SwisVerb $swis Orion.AlertSuppression SuppressAlerts @(@($URI), $start, $end)

Save the code above into a folder on the main poller like C:\SolarWindsScripts\mutealert.ps1, and then create a 'Execute An External Program' action on the alert you've created.

In the path, use the following:

powershell.exe -file "C:\SolarWindsScripts\mutealert.ps1" -URI ${N=SWQL;M=SELECT uri from Orion.Nodes where NodeID = ${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeID} } -hours 1

This will mute the alerts on the node for 1 hour, you can increase if needed. If it fires again during that time it will simply extend the mute by another hour.
