Alerting when a device with two IP addresses are BOTH down

Hello,

Solarwinds novice here...sorry!

We have devices with LAN IP address and Wifi IP address - only one is active at a time because of the nature of the device. I'd like to Solarwinds to monitor the device as one device with 2 IP addresses, and ONLY alert if BOTH IP addresses are unavailable. I don't want to see a load of RED on dashboards for all the IP addresses I know are not actively being used.

Can this be done? If so, can you give some steps to achieving it please? It seems like a standard sort of monitoring requirement in my view, but we had a consultant in who wasn't sure how to do this.

I think for the intended result since one would always show down, you may want the group rollup type of show best status. That way as long as one IP of the device is responding the group would show up.

@KMSigma.SWI is right with his suggestion. Create a group, define the Status Rollup setting to be 'Worst Status' and put both of the devices in the group.

The default Group down alert will work straight away, but you may wish to  create a specific alert action, which looks for this group name and a group status of down.

So, this appears as two different "nodes" because of each IP?  Sounds like putting both in an Orion Group and only notify when both are down.  I've not done this before, but there's no reason it shouldn't work.
