NTM and VMware

I am trying to setup credentials to scan my VMware environment. My environment consists of the vCenter appliance and 6 hosts all running 6.5 Update 1.

When I go to setup the credentials for the scan I am prompted with a window that asks for:

Name:

User Name:

Password:

I have tried root along with an IP of one of my hosts, that does not work.

I have tried my domain admin account and the local admin account to the vCenter server and that does not work.

What credential does it need? I am running NTM version 2.2.2.701.

Any help would be appreciated.

NTM uses a VMware API to query data from VMware servers. The API requires a VMware account with at least read-only access to VMware. The data from the VMware API allows NTM to associate host VM servers and the guest virtual servers.

To gather complete information about the guest servers, ensure that the guest servers’ IP addresses and VMware credentials are included in your discovery.

I get that, however, the accounts I am using are the root account for the ESXi hosts and my domain admin account for vCenter which have the requisite permissions. I scanned the IP range for the hosts and they were detected but only for ICMP, nothing for SNMP.

VMware 6.5 no longer allows the use of the C# client. Could this be the cause of the inability for SolarWinds to be able to log in with its API?

it would also be nice if you can Scan based on Vmware TAGs.
