Solarwinds Admin Service headaches when updates are out.

Hello,

Running the following:

Orion Platform HF3, IPAM, SCM HF2, NCM HF1, NPM HF3, PM HF1, NTA HF2, VMAN HF3, SAM HF3: 2020.2.6

 

When clicking on the tab: Updates & Evaluations it appears to initiate a download/install of a new Administration service every time an update has been released.

This has happened twice since the release of 2020.2.6 HF1 and caused problems which have removed the service but not install the service.

I understand that Virus scanning and GPO polices can potentially have an impact. Case by case.

Although, This was not the case.

Would prefer to be notified in the Notifications section at the top of the page about the update and prompt for the install rather than clicking on the tab and the process initiated.

Not sure if this is possible. I would like to see something in Deployment Health as a preventative measure.

Agreed.

I have noticed this and have also had issues where the admin service will 'auto update" on its own ( just for fun?) and then have an error and the result is there's no Administration service installed on the server anymore!  You notice this because the pages under "my Orion Deployment" will now not load any information.  The "fix" is to simply "reinstall it" (using local installers already downloaded) but I'm not happy it always does some changes/updates/etc. without my consent (for change control purposes). It does appear to be upgrading itself over time (per version changes of the installer names in the installers directory, also when I had this issue in an HA environment the version downloaded on the primary was different than my HA node ( which did not get upgraded as a result of the crash? but when you reinstall on the primary Orion poller and it succeeds it then upgrades the service on the HA node automatically)
