SolarWinds Orion Mass Muting Interfaces

Is there an efficient way to mass mute interfaces? To give some background, our company will sometimes mass mute nodes by creating a spreadsheet with a list of all nodes that need to be muted and importing that list on the manage nodes page. It would help me make a common custom property for the list of nodes I could then select and schedule for maintenance mode.

I made a similar custom property for interfaces in our network but when I try to do the same method above by importing a spreadsheet, it doesn't update the custom properties. I could change all the custom properties manually but that could take too long in some cases for us. Is there a better way to mass mute for interfaces? If it could still use a spreadsheet that would be great since we often can export a list of what we need to mute.

@WillP There are likely several ways to skin this cat, each depending on various factors.

Many folks use dedicated custom properties, tied into the alerts, which will simply bypass the alert if the property value is set to "Yes/True". This allows you to quickly toggle node alerts off/on per node, on the fly.

Using the "Custom Property Editor", you can easily toggle nodes in bulk.

The "Manage Nodes" page will also allow you to toggle the "Mute Alerts Now" system option for a node, or nodes in bulk.

Otherwise, if you really wanted to get into further, you could go down the API/SDK rabbit hole, and build something as fancy as your heart desires.

Do any of these help you in the correct direction, or did I go the wrong way?

PSA: My screenshot shows the mute option while nodes are selected (not interfaces), but the mute is applied to the object, so I believe it will mute anything that object would normally trigger.

This is what I want to do but my issue is applying the custom property to a large amount of interfaces at the same time. I think I am going to have to go down the SDK route but if there was a way for me to ingest a spreadsheet with a list of all the interfaces I want to apply that custom property to, I think it would be much easier.

If you have a unique identifier - e.g. the InterfaceID from the database, you could import a spreadsheet that has the appropriate custom property values using the Import function in Manage Custom Properties.

I have already tried that. Xlsx files don't work for whatever reason since it always throws a "file corrupted please reformat" error whenever I try to import one. Older xls and csv files are fine. I made a custom property named "Interface_Group". I made a spreadsheet with one column filled with what I wanted the Interface_Group to be. The other column had some interface names in it. I imported the spreadsheet, selected Interfaces as the import type, selected the first column to import to Interface_Group, and sleected the second column to match the InterfaceName. It successfully verified but when I clicked import it will not change any of the interfaces. I'll keep trying different fields until something works but I have no idea why importing interfaces has had so many issues compared to importing nodes. Is there something I'm missing?
