How does everyone monitor temperature in your network closets?

We are looking at a more efficient way to monitor the temperature in our 100 network closets. In the past we were using the UPS to alert us but we have found to many issues with keeping them online. I would love to use SolarWinds to report it for me using something other than the UPS temp probe. I'm curious what everyone approach is to solve this issue. We are also a k-12 School District with a small budget and in most cases have to find creative ways of using what we have.

For us, ideally, environmental monitoring falls under facilities management. In reality, we (IT) usually end up reporting temperature issues to them because Solarwinds has alerted us to switches or routers reporting temp alarms. Not an ideal situation. 

With the old syslog viewer, I was able to set up filters and triggers to recognize temp alarms and automatically kick out emails to our operations group.

With the current/new sensors monitoring capability of Cisco switches, I have set a custom threshold on a few sensor items and enabled an alert to kick out emails. This allows finer granularity in setting the margins and not depending on the switches internal alarm thresholds which, in many cases, is too late.
