Network re-IP

Aloha everyone. I have a ticket open with support but I was hoping to find some additional guidance. Our agency is migrating to a new network. My Orion server will be re-IP'd a phase prior to the majority of all other nodes on the network. If my nodes are monitored in Orion via FQDN will there be an impact when the nodes are configured with new IPs? Or will a network rediscovery solve this or run the configuration wizard? Are there any other Orion specific details I need to consider before, during or after the network has been migrated?

Hi there, 

So for the changing of the Orion Server IP this should be absolutely fine, all the nodes refer to the Engine ID of the poller rather than the IP in the database. SolarWinds KB is here for that process: support.solarwinds.com/.../Change-the-IP-address-of-a-poller

For the nodes, SolarWinds does usually use the IP address as well as the Node ID of the device to uniquely identify and poll it. Devices that no longer respond on that IP address would still show in SolarWinds, just in a 'Down' state. Network discovery would re-add the node, but with a new Node ID and Polling IP Address, so you'd essentially have duplicates - Just one would be 'up' and the other 'down'. 

If however, you were to tick the "Dynamic IP" option on your nodes it should use the hostname instead to poll, and it should just continue to poll normally even after the IP change (DNS Update time depending): https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Set-the-Dynamic-IP-Address-option-in-NPM?language=en_US
