Creating Alert on ESX Logical Disks Percent Available from Asset Inventory

Hello,

Is there a way to set up an alert on ESX hosts to alert when the logical disk percent available is at a certain threshold?  I can see that information on the "Asset Inventory" tab on the ESX details, but I'm unable to find it as an option in the various alert categories.  Does anyone know where this is buried in the alert manager?

I managed to pull the full query for that widget from the Activity Monitor in SWQL studio:

	AllocationUnit * (CapacityB - FreeSpaceB) AS SpaceUsed, 
	AllocationUnit * FreeSpaceB as FreeSpace,
	((1.0 * FreeSpaceB / (CapacityB + 0.0000001)) * 100) AS SpaceUsedPercent
FROM Orion.AssetInventory.LogicalDrive ai LEFT JOIN Orion.Volumes v
  ON ai.NodeID = v.NodeID  
  AND v.VolumeSize = AllocationUnit * CapacityB
  AND (v.VolumeDescription LIKE ai.DeviceID + '%' 
    OR v.VolumeDescription LIKE ai.VolumeName)

ORDER BY DeviceID

From this we can see it's using the Orion.AssetInventory.LogicalDisk table for this data. 

Unfortunately, this isn't something we can use directly in the alerts section, so we'll have to settle with the nodes table instead:

SELECT Nodes.Uri, Nodes.DisplayName FROM Orion.Nodes AS Nodes
where Nodes.NodeID in (SELECT NodeID
FROM Orion.AssetInventory.LogicalDrive
where (SizeB - FreeSpaceB * 1.0)/(SizeB) * 100 > 80) --Change '80' for whatever percent you want to alert above
and EntityType = 'Orion.VIM.Hosts' --remove this if you don't want to just limit to hosts

This code above will return any nodes that are Virtual Hosts, that have a Logical Drive with more than 80% used space on it. 

After this, you can just set-up the alert as usual. Hope this helps!
