Creating an alert for outbound pings FROM the Node

Basically, there is an issue with some of our Nodes where the ICMP traffic TO the node from Orion works fine but logging onto the server and sending outbound ICMP packets to even the local host fail.

Solarwinds does not detect this because it sends ICMP packets to the node as its "test"

Im trying to find a way to force the server to send 40 outbound pings to the localhost and if there is a 5% loss, trigger an alert.

Is there anything that can assist with this?

If the system is monitored via the agent then this could easily be handled with a powershell script monitor in SAM (if you have the product). Additionaly if monitored with an agent then you could setup a NetPath probe from this node to an endpoint (maybe solarwinds etc.)... it may excibit the same problem seen?? Might need testing on that one as NetPath tests a TCP endpoint and uses ICMP type 11 throughout the path.

WINRM could also be leveraged to run a custom powershell script remotely without the agent for this as an alternative. That way the script runs on the orion server connecting to the monitored node within the script to send pings and return a result to the polling engine.

This one's interesting and really could justify using the agent to monitor the node however on the flip side... if the server can't ping itself on localhost that seems like a server or environmental (vm envirnmony) issue and if it's just that server I wouldnt spend the cycles to solution out a monitoring edge-case.
