Our performance issues have been resolved, but I wanted to let you know how this was resolved.
Alerting can significantly slow down an NPM server. I know because we live it for many years, tech support tickets, and phone support. Nor did Solarwind KB articles led me to the fact - to disable alerts that are not in use.
- The Out-of-Box alerts default - Evaluation Frequency of Alert is 1 minute. We had 30 something Out-of-Box alerts evaluating every 1 minute and doing nothing, just because we left them ON.
- It was not until I started training our operations department and wanted to clean up alerts first, that I started noticing performance gains.
- I got our alerts down to 9 necessary alerts and turned off all others.
- Out-of-Box alerts should not default to 1 minute. Maybe 2 or 5 minutes.
- Please update your KB articles to include turning off alerts that are not in use.
- Now our NPM website is responsive. Now I feel we may not have needed to purchase a secondary Website. grrr.
