ServiceMapping SolarWinds

Question

Has anyone successfully built out a ServiceMap in ServiceNow for your SolarWinds deployment? I'm not looking to manually manage the ServiceMap, I'm interested in the Horizonal discovery mechanism within ServiceNow to produce said ServiceMap where, the entry point is the Orion Web Server or in my case an AWE. It seems there will need to be new Application Server CI types created for APEs and the CORE along with patterns to identify and create connections. I'm wondering if anyone has already done this and if so can you share your strategy?

I think it might. It depends on the connection methods available via the ServiceNow pattern. I'll have to add a connections section to the pattern for class cmdb_ci_microsoft_iis_web_server. Left is my core, right is my AWE. I'm currently showing them as two different entry points. I'll branch off the CORE with all the APES and then I guess the SQL would branch from the Core.

I love this question and I bet you are somebody I could learn from. Later this year we turn on Snow Discovery and shortly there after start service mapping, so I haven't done this, but I think I know something about what you are trying to do, so I hope I can give you a bit of help.

I think you should query that webserver over the Rest API for information. Replace Orionserver with the additional webserver that you discover:
https://OrionServer:17778/SolarWinds/InformationService/v3/Json/Query?query=SELECT+ServerType,+HostName,+SWAVersion,+Details+FROM+Orion.OrionServers

That gives you all the servers in Orion (minus the database server) and the role they play, the version, and details has the Orion modules installed. Does that help?
