Orion not detecting a link between 2 Cisco multilayer switches

I am creating a new map for our network in Orion Network Atlas and came across the weirdest issue. ConnectNow was not detecting a link between 2 of my Cisco multilayer switches, however it was detecting links from each of those switches to all of my other switches connected to them.

I went into our NPM server and went to the node management screen for each multilayer switch. On each switch, it detected the interface links for all devices connected to it in the NPM Network Topology list except for the links connecting the 2 of them together. I have verified all of my polling settings and even have alerts set up on these interfaces that work if they go down. I can also see traffic on the listed interface through the node management screen, but for whatever reason, its missing in the topology list on both devices. So far I have matched settings for polling on all devices, repolled the devices, rediscovered the devices, and ran the topologycalculator.exe from the server.

Has anyone ever experienced this and have a solution? I have worked on this for 2 days but cannot seem to get this link to appear on my topology.

This might be something you would need to generate a support ticket for in order to investigate why we are not seeing the connection between the devices.

If however, you choose to use Orion Maps vs Network Atlas, you could manually define that topology via the map, and have that connection be added to the database to where it shows up in the NPM Topology Widget, the map, and any future maps. In essence you can define topology within the tool. Is there anything preventing you from currently using Orion Maps right now?

Do you have additional pollers in your environment, if you do re-add these 2 devices on another poller check/make sure this link is added and visible while you add the devices, dont disturb the existing devices, just re-add them on a different poller and then give it a try - let me know how it goes.......

Pull these 2 newly added devices on your Network Atlas and check if it is now visible.

I am new to using any map features on Orion. In the past, all I have bene tasked with is adding nodes and adding alerts. I will look into Orion Maps and and see if I can manually define those interfaces so they show up in the NPM Topology widget.

We only use 1 poller for our entire deployment as far as I am aware. Can I add a 2nd poller for these 2 devices without it affecting the rest of our devices?

I did as you suggested and used Orion Maps to manually define the connection between the nodes. The nodes now show as 'custom' in the NPM Topology and I now have a connected link that displays utilization on the map I crated in Network Atlas. Thank you so much for your help and I will look further into creating maps in Orion directly as they look very smooth.

No that isnt a feasible approach, but rather you could try deleting these nodes and adding them again in SolarWinds, but please make sure you capture all details that you need before doing this, I didnt want to suggest this but yes this might work.
