Hi
I tired to search the advantages and disadvantages of Appinsight Active directory in google. Could you please provide the links or something about appinsight active directory. Kindly help me on this one. Regards,Krish.
Advantages and Disadvantages compared to what? Its a subjective question.
If you don't monitor the health and performance items listed in the template, and if you need to do so it is easy to implement. But I don't know what you currently do, what you need to do, or what goals you have. I personally do use these templates on 2 forests, 4 domains, and about 40 servers.
Monitor with AppInsight for Active Directory (solarwinds.com)
we are planing enable the appinsight active directory in my environment. so i am looking for pros and corns.Already read the provided the link.
Advantages:
- Monitor not only the direct metrics from Active Directory, but also the performance counters and event logs from the server that can affect the performance
- Easy to set-up using the built in AppInsight configuration tool in the web console. This opens all the ports and enables winrm and opens firewall rules.
- Uses winrm instead of the legacy RPC/DCOM, but can fall back on it if possible.
Disadvantages:
- The template uses a lot of components, on a smaller component-based license you will very quickly run out, especially with multiple DCs.
- With out of the box alerting, a storm of alerts can be sent out if the components aren't configured properly from the get go.
These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks lot Marlie for provided the information. i have one doubt about component licensee when we checked the license components showing 50 ( Application monitor) but we opened the Appinsight template it will available 70+ component why it is showing like this could you clarify this one. Thank you
Hi Kishore,
Glad to hear that my information was useful, for your second question I think it is as simple as there are some disabled components inside of the AppInsight templates. So while it may contain 70, only 50 of them are enabled and will count against your license.
Kind regards,
I believe they capped the number of components that count towards licensing, even if you enable items. AppInsight for Active Directory and component-based licensing (solarwinds.com)
