Give permissions on an Orion Map

i've created a number of Oriion Maps - to show our WAN and some of the LAN's.

i've created this as ad administrator on Solarwinds (aligned to Active Directory groups).

this works and others can view these maps who are in the administrator group.

however i'm trying to setup read-only access for our Servicedesk to be able to view these maps on a custom View.

however the map's won't show - i can create the view fin and add an Orion Map but it won't show the maps. i've tried ammending all sorts of permissions - but even now i've gone as far as to temporarily give the read-only user admin access and i still can't view the maps in that setup.

it appears because the map's were created by an Admin - they can't be viewed as a non admin.

its incredible frustrating as i;ve virtually given the read-only accounts all the same permsisions as an admin user and still can't view the map.

any idea's on what i'm missing?

weirdly ive since discovered this was an issue purely with my test account and only on Internet explorer. as such it worked fine on other browsers with the same account.

i'd obviously tried all the standard Internet explorer things like clearing cache etc.

thanks for the replies on this, but appears the issue was a browser issue with my test account

Owners/ Creators of a map are the only users that would be able to edit the map, BUT anyone should be able to view a map provided you added it to a dashboard or view. If the non-admin is going to the Orion Maps Management List view to access the maps, they will not be able to view them from there.

Your options, similarly to what you have stated above are to either add an Orion Map Widget to a dashboard which they would be able to see, or use a resource like User Links Widget, or Custom Table to make a list of maps that users can select and access View Mode of that map.

When you say the map won't show, does the map disappear from the Orion Map widget? The reason this often occurs is there is a view limitation on the page that impacts the entities you have on the actual map. Side Note: There has to be a managed/ monitored entity on the map for it to be available to view. It can't be just images. (identified this as an issue before). If you have some screenshots of the views you are creating as well as their page settings that could be helpful too.

hi - thanks for the response.

so i'm not looking for the non admins to be able to edit the maps - simply view them.

so what ive done is create a view and added various bits to it. all the other bits such as 'all nodes', top interfaces by traffic work. there are then some maps. the maps just show a blank form

i've looked at the view restrictions but can't see anything obvious. the maps are effectively a WAN and a few LAN diagrams showing the nodes connectivity to one another and being green when up and going red when down - all quite simple. its all against existing managed nodes.

attached are screen shots of it not working (when as a non-admin) and working when as an admin. note other admins who havent created the map's can view them fine.

@JMB77 I have really tried to recreate this issue and cannot.

What do you see on the settings page here? Are there any limitations set?

What about the Account? Here in my Account where this 'MapGuest' user literally had no rights whatsoever but still can view the maps, on the custom view without issue.

If you open one of your maps in View Mode and click the Share button to copy the URL, what do those non-admin users see when clicking the link that you give them?

and if i send the URL link it just shows a blank map not populated.
