Node is not part of Domain and I can't add to Solarwinds

I have a really odd issue going on here.

1. Node is not domain joined. I have a few nodes like this so I normally create a local account on the node and add this local account to Solarwinds.

2. Firewall on the node is completely off

3. I can ping back and forth between the nodes just fine

4. When I go to manually add the node I can see the service account successfully login via the security event log.

5. I have changed the login to SERVER NAME\SERVICE ACCOUNT and also just SERVICE ACCOUNT and both do the same thing.

6. I really do not want to use the Agent. (software requirements)

7. I can login as the service account on the node and do things

8. The service account is in the local admins group

9. WMI Service and RPC services are running.

10. I am kind of at the end of my ideas to try. Any other suggestions? If I was getting errors in the security log this would be easier but at this point I am at a loss. This node should be able to talk to Orion. Thanks! -Dave

We have had a few nodes that were not part of a domain. The local accounts were handled like this: .\Service Account

No domain or local computer name. That is a period\Service Account

After some digging around.... DNS is your friend until it is not... LOL

martian_monster Can you please elaborate on your resolution? I am having the same issue

I am trying to remember which issue this was. I am thinking it might have to be with the DNS servers that were assigned to the node. The node might have had some old DNS servers in them that was causing the issue. If it comes back to me I will let you know.
