Can I use a custom property to mute alerting?

I am in the process of importing DEV nodes into Solarwinds and I thought I had setup a custom property to disable alerts but I think that was something I setup quite some time ago and it does not really work like I would like it.

I know I can unmanage a node but am hoping I could use something like a custom property to disable/mute alerts for nodes. If I can I would also use this custom property for reporting and dashboarding as well if I can. Thanks! -Dave

I actually use a property for environment. Production must be set for the alerts to fire (some include nodes without anything set). Use the under strict values you can set up a drop down list and set your desired values. We have production, test, dev, staging, pre-prod, and decommissioning.

We also do something along the lines Jake mentioned. We have a CP called "Node_In_BAU" (BAU = business as usual) and has two options - yes or no.

In all our live** alerts a part of the trigger logic says: Node_in_BAU = yes to fire. We do this under the alert scope:

** live as in the ones that generate an incident, as we have other alerts that create log files or emails, etc.

Another ditto here. Custom properties in the alert scope are just awesome. You can do some interesting grouping too. If the alerts are based entirely on a custom property value, not just filtering production tiers, then you can split apart nodes on a single property. I use some of the yes/no properties to scope alerts, and even a drop down list one that targets alerts with different actions - same basic type of node, all production, but some are more "important"
