I installed SolarWinds Orion and SAM. Then I added my Dell iDRAC via SNMP monitoring.
Out of the box, SolarWinds "Server Monitor" does not read the power supplies of my server -- specifically it does not tell me that one of my supplies is not receiving power.. Is there something I'm not getting?
Yes I can read the Dell iDRAC SNMP spec and maybe "roll my own" using the universal device poller (although not clear to me how to add OID tables). On a related note: what's the point of loading the Dell iDRAC MIBs into the "Master Solarwinds MIB Database" if I have to research and load OIDs one at a time by reading the Dell documentation. Sounds so absurd that I must be missing something.
When I used zabbix, it was as simple as adding a "template" for Dell iDRAC -- to get temperatures, power supplies, hard drives, etc.
