High availability Active - Active OR Active - Passive

I'm planning on building a HA solution with 2 MFT server. from what I can read is that the HA solution will be based on Active - Active. is that correct understood?

Also when doing a search on this topic, i found 2 different description (ways) on how to do the HA.

what is the correct way or how have you build the HA part? 

how is the user management done with a HA solution, are the users/configuration copied from one host to the other when ever there is some changes?

I have a Windows Server environment. 2 servers that sit behind a load balancer.

What I did for HA was build the folder structure first and then configure DFS Replication to Sync the files between the folders on the server pair

My environment for MFT is LDAP based so when I configure LDAP group access I do this on one server then I use Solarwinds guide to replicate the MFT domain settings to the 2nd node
