Monitor SQL Availability Groups

I am going to start here in the DPA area. How do you setup and also monitor SQL AG groups? I tried searching in THWACK but ended up with quite a few dead links. We have quite a few SQL AG and I know in the past I have read through some documents on how to set this up but cannot find any of these now. Thank you! - Dave

We own DPA but also have SAM, NPM, NCM, VMan, if that helps with suggestions.

Consult the DPA Administrator Guide corresponding to your version of DPA. In the DPA licensing chapter, go to the "DPA registration and licensing options for clustered environments" section and review the options for setting up SQL Server AGs.

If you have quite a few, you might consider using the mass registration wizard.

DPA configuration for SQL Server AGs is separate from any of the Orion based products.

Do you know if I can do this outside of DPA or does a SQL AG need to be setup in DPA to work? Other things cluster so I am curious if we can do this with something in Orion. Not sure if all my DBs are in DPA and right now I cannot spend any additional money on DPA licensing. Thanks!

If you only want to use one DPA license, you could use the option in the above registration section of the admin guide to register the AG Listener instead of each instance in the AG. Note that on failover, certain metrics related to host and resources etc. may have a drastic change.

I think my brain is putting all things clustered into this. Our DBA team has setup AG monitoring in DPA but our Patching Team was wondering about monitoring these AG in Orion. I just kind of tossed them altogether and figured they are the same. Sorry about that LOL
