How will Solarwinds handle a service monitor template that doesn't have all defined services running any every node being monitored

I've configured some monitor templates that include 3 Windows services I'd like to monitor.  I have one server that is only running two of the services, one server running one of the services and one server running all three services.

I've tried to save time and effort by assigning the same template to all three server nodes,

What I see is that one the server node that isn't running all of the monitored services, the application monitor status is red, with the following message logged against the missing services:

I just want to know whether this is expected (feels like it is) and, if so, is my only option to build a separate monitor template for each combination of services (e.g. one for two services, one for one service and one for three services) and assign the monitor template to the relevant server nodes individually?

Yes, this is expected behavior. You have several ways to achieve this but with some manual effort.

1. Use a generic template like what you did, push it to all servers. Then get onto the particular node page on the server click on application monitor/template on the node page and disable the components you don't wish to monitor - this change will only affect the template for that particular node.

2. Since you have 3 monitors for example, on your generic template disable 2 monitors just keep one monitor which is running on all servers and push the template to all servers. Then get onto the node page click on the template on the node page and enable the other monitors that you wish to as required.

3. Lastly, what you just proposed - create 3 separate templates/application monitors and push them across to relevant nodes.
