Advice required for upgradation from NPM 12.3 to latest version.

Dear Thwack team,

Hi,

We currently have installed following

Orion Platform 2018.2 HF6

NPM 12.3

SAM 6.7.0

and want to upgrade to the latest versions of all three mentioned above. Please suggest plan of action.

Im pretty sure that the upgrade path is listed on the customer portal.

We're running a similar version of NPM/Orion etc.

So download the latest updates, put them on your servers/new servers and complete the upgrade and migration.

Follow that, and ti'll give you all the information you need.

thanks for the reply. I have checked the product advisor which says that the products are compatible. Can you suggest anything about hardware as well...

As in the servers? It's all listed in the release notes, as to what hardware/virtualisation you should go with. I'd need specifics to be able to offer additional help.

Just look out for 3 things:

1. All modules should have active license.

2. Check with SolarWinds regarding migration of reports from report writer to Web reports (in case you have any old reports which are on Report Writer).

3. OLV - (In case you are still using Syslog Viewer and Trap Viewer)

Log Viewer (Additional DB Instance is required) – there is a small change in architecture, in the new version of SolarWinds Log Viewer is installed which removes Syslog Viewer and SNMP Trap Viewer and this needs an additional database instance on SolarWinds Database, this will not run on Netperfmon DB Instance.

I do think it would be helpful if there was a web tool like the Upgrade Advisor to help administrators understand what system resources they need to provision for their environment. Some of the tables on that document can get a little convoluted.
