Performance reading mismatched between vCenter & Solarwinds

Hi all, 

I receive an enquiry from my colleagues regarding the data mismatch between SAM & the data provided by vCenter.

All my VM servers are being monitor by Solarwinds Orion & alerts has been setup for any high CPU & Memory utilization. However my colleague has been observing that sometimes when an alert was triggered for high CPU utilization, he's unable to see any high CPU usage from the vCenter history.  He, however did not logon to the server to view because there's no performance monitoring setup from the OS level.

May I know why does Solarwinds & vCenter reports different readings?

We have experienced the same "issue", essentially, it probaly is high CPU and memory for a very short period of time. the vCentre display (depending on what you set), may not match the same polling frequency as SW.

My suggestion for a fix is to set the high CPU and memory alerts to have a delay so that very short spikes don't trigger the alert.

On the trigger condition of the alert, set "Condition must exist for more than" for a period longer than 2 polling cycles. So if you poll the node every 1 minute, set the condition trigger to say 2 minutes.
