I got this message on some of our Vmware servers, some one who have an solution?
If you know what to remove, yes that works. Or the 'manage entities' page will assist:
Or automatic removal like @simon.stone describes. Then refresh and add the discovered interfaces (using discovery for automatic imports, or hit refresh on the List resources page for it to go out and get new information). If you use the List resources page and it doesn't show the unknown interface to stop monitoring it, the other methods will still let you clean it up.
Sometimes interfaces get reindexed or replaced (Vmware tools updates can do this) and orion doesn't see the old config as active, so it goes unknown. If you don't need the history, delete it off the node and add in the NIC again from the list resources or using discovery. There is also a setting that removes unknown NICs after a period of time, 7 days if I remember correctly.
Do you mean i will deselct the networkadapters like the screenshot? And then i add the nic again from list resources or discovery?
You need to enable DELETE STALE INTERFACES option in the Orion Polling Settings. By default it's 7 days but you can change the STALE INTERFACE RETENTION to meet your requirements.
Thanks, i have now enabled DELETE STALE INTERFACES option and then change the value to 1 days, do you think it will be ok?
All those unknown should clean themselves up, just make sure to discover the interfaces that replace them.
I've been using Orion for over 7 years and somehow missed this setting. THANK YOU!
Now it seems better
But why is it in unknown state?
It didn't use to be there, I think was added 2 or 3 years ago
