Why can't I monitor an ESX server through both the vmware API polling method, as well as SNMP?
If I use the API polling method I have no visibility into the datastore volumes on the host server. But if I use the SNMP method then all the datastores are polled and show as logical volumes that I can monitor their capacity.
Why does it have to be 1 or the other? I also tried to set up a second management IP on the ESXI server and did an SNMP walk from another linux machine to prove that I was receiving all the OID's on both the main IP as well as the new IP... but when I snmpwalk from solarwinds server the new IP always times out.
Is Orion somehow blocking receiving snmp info if its already monitoring a server via the API even though its on a completely different IP address?
