Starting over on new NPM

Our situation:

- We are 2020.2.1HF1, unknown infection state due to conflicting information etc., old NPM and SQL server are offline.

- To make a clean break and start over we want to build a new SW server...and since the real configs live on the SQL sever, I assume this is somewhat straightforward.

- Complications:

   - I want the new server to b 2020HF2, does this mean we need to install HF2 on the old so the SQL server gets what it needs and then do the HF2 on the new box? I would rather not install HF1 on the new server and then update it to HF2 because of uncertainty around the HF1 security.

- See above, both old servers are offline...to do the HF2 on the old, I assume those two servers need to talk, right?

I see docs for migrating to new server...with same name and IP...but there are inconsistencies with what I am needing. Has anyone build from scratch and had success? If so, can you share steps? I have a case open, but their lag time is understandable long right now.

First make sure you have a backup of your database.. if possible remove your licenses back to solarwinds portal. 

Installing on a new server is pretty straight forward. If you are building new server with the same name and IPAddress, then the Orion Configuration will do any adjustments need to the database. There is guide here if you are migrating to the new server and IPAddress. There is couple of places where you would make adjustments to the database for the new server name and IPAddress.. I have done a couple of time without changing the database entries, and it still works but you may have polling engines that show up as unavailable.
