2020.2.1 HotFix 2 Install Issues

After Downloading the 2020.2.1 HotFix 2 on 12/15/2020 at 8:20pm we tried to install the Hotfix and was given a dialog screen that state that all produces are up-to-date.

we are currently running on version 2020.2 HF 1

Is anyone else getting this message when they try and install the 2020.2.1 hotfix 2 in their environment.

My understanding, 2020.2.1 (Released August 2020) is treated as a separate Release, which incorporated the 2020.2 (Released June 2020) HotFixes. Now 2020.2.1 has additional HotFixes.

Not sure why SW did this, as it causes a lot of confusion but they should also release 2020.2.2 with the Security Fix incorporated imo.

The 1.3GB File will have all previous HotFixes that were released (for 2020.2.1), but the Product needs to be at version 2020.2.1 for the HotFix installer to figure out which ones are applicable.

I am seeing other customers not having any issues with the installer but we think the upgrade might require 2020.2.1 Hotfix 1 for Hotfix 2 to work

I believe you need to Upgrade to 2020.2.1 first, then you should be able to run the HF installer without issues.

We have HF1, but haven't tried HF2 yet. Do we know if the SQL server has to be online when we do the HF2 update? I plan on doing the HF2 as an offline install. But, in the past, when we did updates, it made changes to the SQL server...so, I am curious if they need to both be up to install this patch. Thanks.

I though Hotfix 2 would included Hotfix 1

Were you able to click on the Release Notes and open them? I'm not able to do so. Just wondering if others are having the same issue?

I am not able to see the release notes but normally the Hotfix 2 has the Hotfix 1 included

No. Our hotfixes are cumulative so HF2 includes any fixes that were in HF1.

I have 2020.2.1 HF1 installed already i was trying to install HF2 it was stopped in the below windows for more than 1 hour .

I tried reboot the server and check same issue .Any one facing the same issue

This is not a solution, you just said the patch would work but it does not. I have downloaded both HF 1 and HF 2 and they both have the same behavior.

What i did to get around all the install issues..

I downloaded the .ISO file and opened it on my main server. From there, if i tried to install the it i would get an error about preflight not working, or it would go 1 step further and unknown element issue.

so i had it pre-staged from the ISo and was able to install it from my main poller.

Solution:

I was able to talk with support and just downloading the HotFix 2 from the main Customer portal page does not work for most, you must go to downloads and select your product then you get the actual file for your system. Not sure why they didn't just say that on the first page.

As an update, I had to change to using downloads.solarwinds.com via the centralised upgrade/online mechanism to get the HF2 update. Not entirely sure what the offline image was unhappy with.
