Solarwind config dump?

Like everyone else, I've been scrambling today. One thing that came across my desk is a request for a dump of 'everything' with the idea that we are going to build new and rebuild our monitoring environment on entirely new servers. This would include the database.

If I can't migrate my database, what are my options for migrating everything else? And my everything else, I mean:

List of devices, with custom fields, SNMP credentials, etc.
Group membership.
Dependency relationships.
Reports.
Change templates.
Change management alerting rules...

All we needed to export was our list of IP's via custom properties export.

Things like custom reports and UDP's you need to export. everything else is held in the database.

But if you want to be safe, you can export the list of your nodes or interfaces with CP vaules via the Mange Custom Properites section to csv file to repopulate via import.

things like groups, i couldn't find a way to do this without manaully redoing it again, but creating dynamic quieries to populate groups with CP is the way to go.

I had to go though a rebuild with new db about year ago, so not somthing i'd want to do a regular basis.

good luck on that wishlist, I did a lot of migrations over the years and I was able to extract most of what you are asking for, but it took me a long time to get that intimately familiar with the db and api to get all the parts in and out. I don't have all those code samples handy but you can check my github and there's at least a few examples of scripts that can build some of what you are asking about in bulk.

I figured as much. I've been pouring over everything I can in regards to the API as part of an automation project. I find the db schema to be quite confusing. I'm neither a programmer nor a database expert, which doesn't help. I'm not sure the loop1 docs are really written for network engineers.

Good info. Thanks. We migrated to dynamic groups over this past year. It's 100+ queries I have to create. I have a script that auto-creates the logic for me, but it's still a manual process--with a lot of mouse clicking--to enter. Hoping there is a way to create them via the API but I'm not finding it.

At a bare minimum that's all we need. I'm hoping for ways to make all the customizations -- e.g. dynamic groups, dependencies, reports, etc. -- more automated.
