Recovering from 2019.4

Hi all,

We had Orion infrastructure that was compromised and needed to be shut down. We are restoring our database to a fresh server, but need to figure out what to do for pollers.

We were on version 2019.4. Does anyone know if we can install 2020.2.1 with hotfixes on top of this existing database? Or do we somehow need to install 2019.4 and upgrade after that is installed? The latter seems like it will be difficult because it looks like those versions are scrubbed from the customer portal.

There are multiple pages about migrating Orion to a new main polling engine available in the support documents. This is a fairly easy process and I know many customers that have done this in the past. Thankfully, you don't need to go to intermittent versions to go from 2019.4 --> 2020.2.1 HF2.

Hello!

I'd recommend checking the upgrade adviser in your customer portal and put in the OS and database versions you were running on your shutdown systems. It appears you can go direct from what I saw but please head to the website and check for yourself.

Upgrade advisor states that 2019.4 can be directly upgraded to 2020.2.1, but my worry would be - is the installer smart enough to know that this is an upgrade without any Orion software being installed on a server? Will it be able to detect that the database is from an older version and update it appropriately?

Sorry if my OP wasn't clear enough, but what I am trying to get answered is can I install 2020.2.1 even though our main polling engine no longer exists? All that is left of our environment is the database.

What has me worried is the chart in the page you linked says upgrade first before migrating to a new server. We need to migrate to a new server and upgrade to 2020.2.1 with our original polling engines all gone.

Yes, you can. This is the case for any catastrophic failure on a server and one of the reasons I mentioned the migration documentation. It's a perfectly acceptable and supported solution if you follow the steps.
