Sam vs AppOptics for AWS

All,

Has anyone replicated the API pulls that AppOptics is capable of in SAM using the API Poller? I need the AppOptics info, but if I have SAM already, why would I purchase AppOptics? So, my thought is to recreate the data pulls using SAM API Poller. If anyone has already done this, please provide some examples of what you've done. If you haven't, I hope to write all this up when I finish so other can replicate it.

I thought to do a similiar though using the SAM component using AWS Powershell API.

Where I worked last had the Solarwinds access to internet and cloud stuff heavily restricted (which was a good thing...) so AppOptics not an option anyway.
