Is a Tab a Custom Property?

Question

I'm new to using 2020.2.1 and have heard that we can use tags to group nodes for monitoring etc. however I cannot find it anywhere. Is a tag simply a customer property?

Yes I would say a "tag" is a custom property.

For SAM Templates there is something called tags but not for nodes.

SAM templates have had tags for a long time, but as far as I can tell, they're only used for grouping/sorting templates in admin. Do they also have other possible use cases that I've missed?
