Compressed file backups?

We started receiving alerts that we were getting about 90% of disk utilization on the C drive.  When determining what it was, we found that c:\programdata\protected-networks.com\8man\data has 13gb+ of zipped files, that are created on a daily basis. For current day, each zip file is 76mb and is growing daily.

• What is this data for?
• Is there a routine to clean it up? If so, what's the timeframe?
• Can we delete it?
• Can we move/re-configure it to another drive, if it needs to be kept.

They are the scan archive. When ARM finishes a scan, the scan will be stored as password protectd zip in the mentioned folder and then saved to the SQL database. The SQL database usually stores scans only for a few days and then needed it loads old scans from the scan archive. The spaces in the scan archive is usally considered to be cheaper than database space.

So you should not delete them all unless you want to lose the whole ARM scan history.

Since it's sorted as technology -> ressource -> year you should consider deleting a whole year in each of the ressources.

The scans the green checkmark are present in the SQL database, the scans with the hour glass are only stored in the scan archive and need to be loaded when needed.

Hint: the listed scans are AD scan. When selected ARM will load that AD scan and related rechnologies (fileserver, Exchange,...) which are closest by date/time.

The configuration for the scan archive can be found in the ARM Configuration UI under "Server":

Here you can configure it partially. You could set the scan archive for a different drive or even UNC path (Attention! When you enter a path and save it ARM will immediately start to move the scan archive data to the target. The account set in the basic configuration of ARM needs full access to the target folder). There's no threshhold your can set for ARM, it would theoretically write to the drive till it is full and then delete old scans. There's no other clean-up routine for the scan archive.

You can without a problem delete old scan archive files. You could even move them somewhere else and if needed move them back to the scan archive.
