Hi,
My understanding is that node availability by default is based on the up/down status of the node and if the node is unmanaged/Unreachable/Unknown etc this isnt taken into account in the unavailability calculations.
We are planning to use dependencies quite a bit to reduce the number of alerts we get, but this will then mess up our Availability reporting. If a node is Unreachable due to its Parent node being down, we still need to report on that node being down in our availability reporting, but not raise an alert for it.
So, i have 2 questions :-
1. in the Dependencies settings there is an option called "When the parent goes down:". The default is "Mark the child as Unreachable" but what is the point of the other option "Status of dependent Child object is not affected by Parent object status" i assume the node will still get marked as down and will then still trigger down alerts, thus meaning the dependency is pointless
2. Has anyone else got round this by creating a custom report that combine Down status and Unreachable Status to get an availability figure?
Any Help much appreciated.
