Juniper EX4550 interface in/out bits per second pulling back Byte

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help, I have set up a trial deployment of NPM, I run a mainly Cisco environment but have a Juniper switch that I would like to monitor in NPM. Currently on the only interface I am monitoring on the Juniper EX4550 it looks like SolarWinds is pulling back the Bytes / sec and not the Bits / sec. For example (easy numbers) the in/out graph for this interface is showing 10Mbps, though other monitoring and on the box statistics I am able to detriment that the rate is actual 10MB/s (80Mbps).

Is any one able to suggest what might be causing this or a potential fix for this?

Hi Dan

I understand that NPM is polling some interface statistics..

but the switch counters say something else?

1.I will make sure that NPM is recognizing the interface type and speed

(switch with SFP+ That the port can change from 10ge to 1ge)

2.Make sure that you poll at the same interface like

xe-0/0/0 & not xe-0/0/0.0 for example

3.Make sure that EX interface port need something extra to display statistics

I think I saw that on Juniper ACX

Thanks for you reply.

Looking at the xe0/0/0 interface does in fact show the correct in/out bps. But the xe0/0/0.0 interface shows the MB/s rate, do you know why this NPM does this?

NPM is only pulling out the interface statistics from the IF-MIB on the device.

Run an SNMP walk against the device and look at the OIDs around 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1. If the device is reporting the rate in MB/s then that is what NPM will display.

There is an SNMP walk tool in your SolarWinds install folder, default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\snmpwalk.exe
