NPM Support for APIs ?

I have attended a couple of webinars and a labs recently and it has been stated the NPM now supports APIs much the same way SAM does.
Is this true?
If so, what version of NPM support this feature?
If not, when will this be supported?

Specifically talking functionality, API Pollers are a functionality of SAM, and not NPM. I could stand corrected but I don't believe that's something they're working on integrating into NPM.

NPM supports the Orion SDK in the last release of SAM they did add the ability to poll devices directly from the Orion console via API.
