Different Map per node(s)

Hi All,

My first post and an Orion Noob. NPN v12.0.15390090 Have had a look for this solution in the search and seems to be an issue from many moons ago, either it is now fixed or everyone has resided to the fact there is no fix and no longer ask.

We have a lot of sites (some small, some large) with a number of Routers/Switches and other devices per site. When I select a node from a particular site, I would like a visual representation of the network topology at that site. Whenever I customise the MAP diagram and select the map for the site location it seems to be a global change in that all nodes will get the diagram I just selected.

I guess a work-around would be for me to drill in to the map and work my way down the nested maps until I reach the specific digram. Seems a bit naff. Is there a way to resolve or a "better" solution?

From any node summary view you will have the pop out left hand side 'tabs' that @mesverrum mentions.

Here's a screenshot of a switch of ours, it is the 'map' tab you want.

Sadly, as I have found out from asking, there is no "per set of nodes" map you can create at present with Orion Maps (as they are calling it) just this automated one.

What you will need to look at and use is Network Atlas - which is whole another level of hell and pain.

In current releases Orion automatically builds a map of known connections for each node and just adds it as a tab on the left of the details view.

Hi,

thank you for the info, however I do not see it. Can you advise what the Resource name is so I can this manually and add to one of my existing Tabs?

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for the info. Your Map tab is something that we are not currently showing, however aren't Tabs just a customisable list of resources to view info about the nodes. What "Resource" is selected in your Map Tab to get the automated map?

I am using Atlas Map to manually create a site diagram (doesn't seem that bad for the moment, it could be a hell of a lot worse!!) which I will then nest inside a WAN diagram and so fourth up the chain back to the Data Centre. Thus providing a hop to hop physical path from server/resource down to client.

What I would love and was the initial post would be that when I selected one of the switches or router for a particular site then it would show the local site Atlas Map. From there I can then drill up through the diagrams back to the Data Centre to work out the flow and hops along the route. As I am new to the company and having so many sites, I spend much of my time wondering which sites connects to which site portal location and then in to our MPLS network. The Map resource seems to be a global Map setting in that it will display the same image for all nodes regardless of what the node is I was hoping for the map to be dynamic depending on the node that was selected.

I could start at the top and drill down to the site, but invariably I do not always now where the site is to drill down. My colleagues are veterans off +15 years and so this knowledge of location is part and parcel.
