Polling Engine Max Capacity with APM?

I am curious what I should figure is the max capacity for my polling engine in terms of elements and how APM factors into that equation?

I realize that polling interval and system power have an impact on this but I need a rough number to use. I have read the number of 8000 elements before; I don't know how accurate this is and how APM might impact that.

Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated, thanks!

In our performance testing in an APM-standalone scenario, peak capacity on a single poller was in the neighborhood of 10K component monitors.

To add to this, it would also be nice to know for NTA and IP SLA Manager as well.

I'm also curious about this. Particularly since the APM Admin Guide states on page 3 that up to 5GB additional (total of 8GB) of RAM may be needed to monitor more than 1000 component monitors.

How is that possible for Orion in a 32 bit environment anyway (limit of 4GB RAM). Or am I missing something here?

In any event, does SW have specs on a system that includes essentially all of their applications on one server?

I honestly do not think you could run all apps on one server unless you were monitoring like 500 nodes max or something. I run a lot of APM on one of my pollers along with about 4k elements for on it as an APM poller and it is the main box.

Dual dual core server with 4gb ram and handles it fine. Of course I have 5 other Sw servers if you count the DB server.

I am still looking to get a better idea of how to determine capacity on a polling engine specifically regarding APM? There are no numbers to show polls per second or anything like that for APM so I feel like I am "flying blind".

Does anybody have any pointers on how to determine the health and capacity of APM polling?

Thanks Craig, that's exactly the type of information I was looking for.

If my understanding is correct, even when running on an NPM polling engine, the APM polling is managed by a seperate set of processes. If this is the case then the same number should be resonable so long as the polling engine has the necessary resources (CPU, Mem, I/O). Does this sound accurate to you?
