Does any know or have a MIB that will monitor Microsoft IIS services? Up/Down. Thanks...
Unfortunately, Microsoft has favored WMI and removed SNMP support for monitoring application servers (e.g. IIS, SQL, Active Directory, etc.) in later versions of Windows.
We are working on a new application performance monitoring module for Orion leveraging technology from the ipMonitor acquisition. In addition to process monitoring (available in existing AM module for Orion), this new module will provide the ability to do custom TCP port monitoring (status and response time) and we'll also provide several standard Monitors by default (e.g. HTTP). This will give you the ability to monitor the IIS processes and check port status and responsiveness.
If you're interested in participating in the beta of this new module, please post to the following topic:
Chris,
Is the plan to replace or supplement the existing module for current application monitor users or rather to offer this as another separate module for purchase?
Our plan is the replace the existing module. For customers that do not want to move to the new module, the existing AM module is being upgraded to work on the upcoming version of Orion so you're covered either way.
So customers can continue to access key metrics from MS SQL, Exchange, IIS now that most/all Microsoft applications no longer support SNMP, are there plans to add WMI support to Orion natively or though an existing or new add-on?
Being able to retrieve key performance statistics from MSSQL 2k, Exchange 2k etc was very valuable to us. Microsoft's decision to remove SNMP support from all future versions of their applications has severely hurt our monitoring capabilities, so I'm hopeful this is on the SolarWinds road map.
