Solarwinds NPM Installation Error!!
Chris474
I'm trying to install solarwinds NPM on my server. I have used the offline installer and the application installs correctly. My issue appears when I try to use the configuration wizard...
I input all the correct information for the SQL database that it will be connecting to and the correct user account details however when I press next the following error appears:
"Solarwinds cannot connect to SQL server. The original error is: the instance of SQL server you attempted to connect to requires encryption but this machine does not support it."
I have tried absolutely everything I can think of and am completely stumped. If you have any other ideas or have seen this error before, please let me know!!

Have you enabled TLS on the SQL server?

Is it possible that your windows server does not have the same tls settings enabled as the SQL server?

I have checked and they are both the same with TLS enabled in the registry

I guess covering the basics first - are you checking the 'Encrypt connections with SSL' radio button? I know... had to ask though lol.
Beyond that, is it at all possible that any TLS settings were changed and the server was never rebooted? (TLS changes require reboot to take affect.)
Are you using a Windows AD login to SQL, or a local SQL account for authentication during the configuration wizard?
What version of Windows is the SQL server running?
What version of SQL server is it running? Is it a shared SQL server? E.g. is there a way to validate it's not the SQL server?...
What version of Windows is the SolarWinds server running?
What version(s) is the SolarWinds products are you installing and configuring? The latest?
The configuration wizard should be adding the SSL certificate automatically as trusted. Might be worth checking via mmc / certs to validate if it shows as trusted I'd assume under computer account... (not sure if it would have even made it that far at that point with the failure you've seen though.)
Hope some of these 20 questions may help...
