NPM 10.2 Discovery question

I'm unable to test the RC or I would answer for myself.

If I have understood correctly the topology information is no longer done via network discovery. Is this correct? Does this mean the discovery times should drop back down to where they were prior to Connect Now being introduced?

I ask because I have been force to chop my discoveries into much smaller chunks due to timing out prior to the 10 hour limit due to topology gathering.

That should be the case.

Meantime, if you want to completely disable topology discovery in 10.1.x, run the below query on your NPM database. This will remove the topology discovery from any currently defined discovery jobs. If you define any new discovery jobs, then you'll need to re-run the query.

I was having the same issue, but this took care of the timeouts for me.

DELETE FROM [dbo].[DiscoveryProfileOptions]
WHERE OptionID IN (15, 16)

Thanks, but I don't want to delete the discovery info I am using the topology data but we have some very large switching infrastructure so I broke down my scans...once I install 10.2 I will look at combining them into larger scans again.

This shouldn't remove the discovered info - it'll just prevent the discoveries from doing any further topology discovery.

Topology data are no longer a part of network discovery in 10.2. It's a part of regular polling as interface or volumes.

During discovery process we only ping devices which topology data are available/supported (mostly 1 OID) and according that we assign appropriate pollers.

We made serious changes to discovery process in 10.2 and it is much faster. From our internal testing it is almost 4x faster for SNMP discovery and almost 9x for ICMP (unofficial numbers)
