Interface Alert Issue
gbrance
Had a weird alert issue with Orion NPM.
I have some alerts setup for some key interfaces on a Cisco 4500 catalyst. We had a alert get tripped when a interface when into Down Status. If you look at our Orin NPM web page you see a triggered alert that the interfaces are down. However the alert engine paged out the interfaces were up. I went into the switch and confirmed that the interface's in question were down. I have the alert set to trigger when the interface goes down. I have the alert to reset when the interface is up. Here is the Macro string for the trigger alert that gets both paged out and e-mailed out for the interface change
Subject Alert: ${FullName} on ${NodeName} is ${Status}
Message Alert: Interface ${FullName} on ${NodeName} is ${Status}.
Here is the what the web page says for active alert and if you go into NPM.
/6/2006 05:19 PM RSM4507.RSM4507.corp.cox.com GigabitEthernet7/5 · RSM-ORG Down Alert: Interface GigabitEthernet7/5 · RSM-ORG on RSM4507.RSM4507.corp.cox.com is Down.
Here is what was e-mailed out
Alert: Interface RSM4507.RSM4507.corp.cox.com-Port-channel53 · RSM-ORG on RSM4507.RSM4507.corp.cox.com is Up.
Any ideas as to why this happened? Am I overlooking something obvious?
Oh yes I did telnet into the switch and confirmed that the interface's are down so Orion NPM is telling correctly that the interface is down.
Thanks-GB

Change ${Status} to ${OperStatus}

Change ${Status} to ${OperStatus}
Thanks. I have tested this and it seems to work. I am not sure why ${Status} doesn't work. The documentation for Orion seems to indicate that ${Status} will show current status of the interface.
Status
Current status of the interface (up, down, shutdown, etc.)

I had it too. It's a known issue that was fixed with the latest update 7.8.4.
From the release notes for 7.8.4: "Resolved issue where Alert macros for Interface and Volume properties would populate improperly. "
