SNMP retrieve after a trap?

I'm getting traps that alert me to a down IPSEC tunnel. The details of the trap list what I believe is the SNMP location for the Peer address:

cikePeerRemoteAddr.1.12.54....

Unfortunately I'm not seeing the actual IP of the peer. Is there a way to retrieve the PeerRemoteAddr from that SNMP location when I get the trap? I need it to be automated.

I got a patch to fix this. The trap now interprets to the correct IP address! I'm told this is rolled into 10.1. Thanks Solarwinds!

You will need to do some scripting in response to a trap. Orion can receive the trap and fire a script, but you are going to have to write the script. I would use net-snmp to do the Get.

Ok, does the trap alert rule allow for passing variables (OIDs in the case) to net-snmp? I've done some scripting in the past so I think I can figure my way through it and net-snmp using snmpget looks fairly straight forward. It would be nice to pass the OID to the command line snmpget and then let it take it from there. Is there a list of variables or a way to define them?
