How can I manually input device details, or how can I make Orion go back out and try again.  I've just installed, and run the network discovery.  It has found most, if not all, of my devices, but most are listed as unknown, when all the servers are 2K3, and the switch involved is a Cisco Catalyst.

 

Running V.9 by the way, just downloaded the SP and will install that in a bit.

When you did your initial discovery, did you have a list of SNMP community strings for your devices?  Usually unknown results come from not being able to make a valid SNMP connection.

It is possible to right click on a device from inside System Manager and select List Resources which will show you the device details SNMP can query on that device.  You can also right click on a device and select Node Details to see what is known about the device--including what SNMP Community String is being used.  If necessary, you can add a community string from there.

 If you discover that the correct set of community strings were missing or you need to redo discovery, you can launch it from System Manager | Orion pull down | Network Discovery or you can get there through Start | Programs | SolarWinds | Orion | Network Discovery.

 If you simply want to add devices one at a time, you can do that from System Manager | Node pull down | Add a Node.

Hopefully this gives you a few options depending on where you're at with Community Strings and where you want to go.

If all your strings are correct, and all your devices have SNMP enabled and running, you might check firewalls or ACLs between your poller and the devices to see if there is a problem with SNMP traffic in general.
