I want to install a new database and keep the old one to use as historical information. Which options do i have? (I have some in mind but let me now yours).

In production environments, the latest version of Orion NPM supports SQL Server 2005 and 2008. For more information, see "Installing SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor | Requirements" in the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide.
There isn't a way to have Orion point to two databases. You can either run the configuration wizard for Orion to create the new database, and then use a SQL managent tool, such as SQL Management Studio to query the old database; or you can make a backup of your existing database, and just purge the information from it. If you choose the latter option, you would have to restore from the backup to see older information.
