Beta alert engine not sending emails?
FormerMember
Has anyone else seen this issue?
I have an alert set up to check interface status and a custom property that I use to group several routers together. The alert seems to trigger fine, in that it shows up in the active alerts, however it does not send an email like its configured to.
The odd thing is, I get the reset email just fine when the interface comes back up.
From what I can tell everything is configured fine as far as email addresses, etc.

Here's an update...
I just deleted and re-created the alert. When I first enabled it, I got all the emails of the interfaces that were already down, but if I manually shutdown any other interfaces, I don't get any emails. Like I said, the alert does trigger if I view active alerts, but does not generate an email until the interface comes back up.
I had a similar issue with a different alert previously, but deleting and re-creating the alert fixed the issue.

Anyone? Bueller?
I'm curious, if no one else has seen this issue, I will be scared to upgrade to the new version of orion (if it ever comes out). I can't have a solution like this if I can't count on it to actually alert me when things go down.

What are you using for your alert trigger action?
Simple or advanced/complex condition?
I have not really figured out the difference between the 2, as they both seem to do the exact same thing. I tried using the advanced condition to create an alert only when more than 10 nodes are down, but it does not allow you to do this.
You might want to try the advanced condition to trigger the alert (field = X, Value = Y) and see if this works. I have not migrated any alerts onto the new Alert Engine yet, so I have not ran into this yet. I've only created a few new ones just to see how it works.

I actually am using the advanced alerts on some of them...for Example:
If status is down
and
{customproperty=x
or
customproperty=y}
It seems to trigger the alert okay, but the action doesn't complete. I get the "UP" emails though.
Is anyone else running this on SQL 2005? I didn't think it was related at first, but I also have problems with the alerting service not starting up properly when the server reboots.

There do seem to be a couple of issues w/ SQL 2005 that I noticed on my dev system, particularly with the service startup.
It sounds like there's an issue somewhere in your trigger. Do you log the alert to the NetPerfMon log as well, or do you just do emails?

Just bumping this thread. I seem to be having the same behavior now with the actual Orion V8 beta as I did with the beta alerting engine in V7.
When configuring advanced alerts, I'm not recieving the trigger actions. If I look at my actual alerts, I see the devices down, so the conditions are working, but I never get any of the emails. I've tried sending to other email addresses including external ones to try and rule out our spam filter, and I've also tried using different smtp servers.
I get the reset alerts with no problem though.

Are you using the Orion 8.0 beta or the final released version?

This was using the most recent beta that I'm aware of. I didn't realize it had been released. I will download that immediately and give it a try.

The release seems to have fixed this particular issue from what I've tested so far.
I have a couple other minor issues with the alerting package, but I will create new posts for those.
Thanks!
