NPM 9.5 SP3 upgrade fails

Hi folks

I try to keep my installation current and this morning I ran Netflow 3.5 SP1 and tried NPM 9.5 SP3. Netflow worked fine but the NPM upgrade fails at the end of the DOS window after all the services are closed. I get the following error.

Unloading OrionNPMWeb
Copying files to C:\Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\
Error: Unable to copy files to install directory. (Error Code: 4)

Any ideas?

Uhm ,my bad. I forgot to check that Universal poller editor was properly closed. It had hung in the background.

I had the same problem this morning. I am getting the same message "unable to copy files to install directory" I decided to scrap the install

Did you open a support ticket so we can get you upgraded?

I ran into the same issue and found that my issue was that I was attempting to install from a different drive (E:) than the installation drive (C:). Moved the install file to C:\Temp and the install completed.

I have seen this both with SP2 and SP3, my issue turned out to be if I killed the services myself using service manger I got that error...If I let the update tool do it I was fine.....Why would it matter I have no clue but that was my experience.

I had the same experience. Don't stop the services manually or kill NPM from task manager. Rerunning SP3 and letting it shutdown the processes caused no issue

I had the same issue and error code. I always stop the alerting service before doing anything just in case some goes crazy, I dont want everyone getting alerted. That is what was killing my upgrade. After that service was running again, the upgrade went fine.
